The Rwanda Chess Federation (FERWADE) is the official Rwandan organization for chess players (from beginners to upper level) and chess supporters. It represents Rwanda in the World Chess Federation (FIDE).
FERWADE was founded in 1997 by a group of Chess game lovers with an overall objective to promote and vulgarize the chess game, not popular at the time in the Country. FERWADE is a non-governmental organization and is composed of clubs from all around the country; students clubs and non-student clubs.
The FERWADE is administered by an Executive Committee composed by a President, a Vice-President, an Executive Secretary General and a Treasurer. It also has a Conflict Resolution Organ and a Technical Committee.
To promote, encourage and sustain the knowledge and play of Chess in Rwanda.
To promote the development of Chess game in Rwanda for the betterment of the society
To promote Chess for all and contribute in achieving sport Excellence for Rwanda;
